First biennial assessment - 2007

The first biennial assessment covering the period to the end of March 2007 was released in October 2007.

This first assessment found that severe water scarcity, coupled with increased uncertainty about future water availability due to the potential impacts of climate change, has already led to considerable action by Australian governments.

However, reforming and improving the way we manage our water remains an enormous challenge - one that requires that all Australian governments work together to deliver on their NWI water reform promises.

In making its assessment the Commission relied on accredited NWI Implementation Plans and on the annual report by the Australian government and states and territories to the Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council on progress on the NWI. The assessment also drew on input from the community provided as part of a wide-ranging public submission process.
