Impacts of groundwater extraction on streamflow in selected catchments throughout Australia

Waterlines 84: Impacts of groundwater extraction on streamflow in selected catchments throughout AustraliaWaterlines report No 84 - June 2012

This report provides a desktop assessment of groundwater/surface water connectivity across Australia. It presents the results of an analytical impact assessment method that was used to estimate the magnitude and timing of the impact of groundwater pumping on streamflow in 39 catchments, and a connectivity flux mapping method that was used to graphically illustrate connectivity in seven catchments.

The report provides a snap-shot style national overview of the likely impacts of groundwater pumping on stream flow, highlights areas that may be susceptible to double accounting if connectivity is not taken into account, and could also be used to target further investment in more detailed monitoring, modelling and management.
